Carr Taylor Wines - Handford Wine Merchants

January 20, 2010

Ambling down Old Brompton Road, a nice sight to behold, Lamborghini’s, designer shops, quality eateries, ladies what sup coffee and Hanford Wines.

A superb collection of some of the finest wines of the world, great everyday quaffers and some great oddities too! Greg Sherwood MW, a canny buyer for the company had requested my presence to sample some of the award-winning wines of Carr Taylor Vineyards.

Located in the heart of East Sussex, in the village of Westfield near Hastings, established in 1969 and paving the way for the success that we see today throughout the English Wine Making Industry. On the slab to taste was - Alexis Dry White (2009) - IWC Commendation 2009, Sparkling Brut NV - Bordeaux Wine Challenge Bronze Medal 2009, Demi-Sec Vintage - Bordeaux Wine Challange Gold Medal Winner and a cheeky wee Ginger Wine.

Whatching an MW sampling your wines is always an un-easy process, facial contortioins, rolling of the eyes and the all too telling - spittoon etiquette. Well, like me and all at Carr Taylor, Mr Sherwood MW was suitably impressed with the overall quality of all the wines. However he most enjoyed the Alexis and the Sparkling Brut NV, both of which he said were correctly priced and that he would be listing them, post the February watershed when buyers are on the move!

One step forward and further great recognition of the superb efforts made by Alex Carr Taylor, we are looking forward to seeing our wines being listed with many of the UK’s finest wine merchants - Harrods next (hopefully!!??).
